Your Coaches

Chriss Smith
Former navy SEAL, Entrepreneur, Extreme Adventure athlete, Husband, Family Man, Mentor & Dog Lover. He understands total body fitness and its role in everyday life.

Marus White
Marcus White began CrossFitting in 2010, achieved his Level I in 2011, and Level II certification in 2013. He currently enjoys coaching at Trident and competing in Olympic Weightlifting competitions.

Herman Phillips
Herman is dedicated to empowering athletes to achieve their goals and improve one rep at a time. His CrossFit journey began more than a decade ago. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he walked into Trident and never looked back.

Hugo De Leon
Originally from Guatemala, Hugo de León is a former firefighter and softball coach. Both disciplines taught him the importance of having a strong general fitness base as the foundation of any physical activity, whether for high performance sports or in daily life.

Sara Gillespie
Sara found Trident in 2010. She quickly gained a new confidence as she learned new skills and improved her fitness level. Trident has helped Sara gain strength, both physically and mentally.

Jonathan began CrossFit back in 2018 and has been hooked since. His favorite movements are anything involving gymnastics and burpees. He enjoys challenging and empowering Trident members when it comes to their fitness goals

Chris began his CrossFit journey in 2010 at Trident Athletics, inspired by his wife Shannon. Starting as an everyday athlete, his focus was on getting a little better each day. Thirteen years later, after completing the CrossFit Level 1 certification, Chris transitioned into coaching. Outside the gym, Chris finds his greatest happiness with his daughters, and wife on the water or in the woods.
Jana Maas
Jana worked in the fitness industry for 25 years before changing careers and moving to Alexandria. In those 25 years, she worked as a personal trainer, a Gold’s Gym sales manager, and finally as co-owner of a personal training studio in Charlottesville, VA.
Andrea Smith

I aim to build trust in my community through open communication with a focus on listening. Then, building off that trust, I look to contribute to others’ goals and provide clarity through objective, quality evidence, and examples.

Josh Segraves
Josh aka “Team SeGraves” is passionate about coaching athletes through the process to be the very best version of themselves. Mechanics, Consistency, and Intensity define what we're doing - master the basics and virtuosity…

Alicia Parenteu
Alicia has been active all her life and spent the majority of that time as a competitive dancer.  A close friend signed her up for CrossFit in 2015 and she was instantly hooked.

Donnie usbaum
Discovering CrossFit in 2007, experimenting with workouts on my homemade pull-up rig and my rusty old garage weights. I relocated my gym to Trident in 2010 and have been CrossFitting there ever since!

Blair discovered CrossFit in 2021. After falling in love with both the physical and mental challenges that came along with the workouts, she decided to pursue a career as a CrossFit coach.

Rozina "Rozie the Dobie", is our 1 year old Doberman Pinscher Mascot. She comes to the gym to work on agility training and loves running on the treadmill

Melanie Rowland
Melanie has been doing CrossFit since 2008 and coaching since 2011. She has been a lifelong athlete competing at the collegiate level.

Stacy Nichols
Stacy began her CrossFit journey in 2011 and specializing in Olympic Weightlifting in
2017. It has become an integral part of her life and fitness path. She has been a Trident
coach for over 10 years.

Nate Pipke
Nate walked into Trident on the second day the gym opened and hasn’t left since. He started his CrossFit journey trying to do WODs off Crossfit.com at a local “Globo-gym” but soon discovered that Trident was a much better home.

Sean Drumheller
Sean discovered CrossFit in 2011 and has been a Trident coach since 2016. He spent over 20 years in the Navy as a Naval Flight Officer in the F-14 Tomcat and F/A-18F Super Hornet and currently works in the cyber security industry.

Anne Marie Alderson
Anne-Marie is a former endurance athlete who has finished numerous marathons and triathlons, including Ironman Louisville.  In 2014, she completed the 3,000 mile Race Across America, a bicycle race from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland.
